Ian And Monika - CHARACTER BIOS IN DESCRIPTION

Recently I renewed contact with a friend I hadn't talked to in a while, and she displayed interest in a few of my new characters, so I figured I'd do some character bios for her! But no character bio is really complete without an image of the character, so I drew this for her as well.

WARNING: THEY'RE PRETTY LONG.

Ian LaVey

Ian is a professional con-man who takes great pleasure in convincing rich businessmen to invest in fake business ventures and then running off with their money. Despite being educated and well-bred, Ian prefers a live of crime on the streets to having a more traditional career, partly because he likes being able to travel wherever he wants and partly because he hates being bossed around. He began his career solo and later partnered up with Monika Reinhardt, a notorious thief-for-hire who used to be his fiercest rival, and the two eventually moved from partners in crime to partners of a more intimate sort.

Although he comes across as suave and flirtatious, he gets flustered very easily in an actual relationship, particularly when his partner continually catches him off-guard (and with Monika, this happens often). He’s very good at conducting himself in a professional situation, though, and has an uncanny talent for knowing when to leave before trouble starts. He always approaches his job with caution and forethought and he will sometimes spend weeks researching his next potential target, exploring every option and plan of action available. He also had a particularly fondness for theatrics and flashy outfits and puts forth effort to create a distinctive appearance (although believe it or not, his hair color is natural). His other hobbies include cheating, gambling, and motorcycle repair.

Monika Reinhardt

Monika is a notorious freelance thief-for-hire known in the underground as “Hurricane Monika,” due to her tendency to storm into the place she intends to steal from without any effort to be stealthy. Her reckless approach to her job often results in brawls and lengthy police chases, which Monika enjoys due to the adrenaline rush associated with such risk. Like Ian, she loves traveling and hates being bossed around, although her reasons for becoming a thief weren’t this but rather that it was the only way she could survive on the streets. Because of this she is much ruder and coarser than Ian, frequently cursing and getting into fights. She makes no effort to tone this attitude down for Ian despite their intimate relationship, and as a result frequently flusters him by catching him off-guard.

Despite coming across as rude and uneducated, Monika enjoys making friends, so long as they’re also a rough sort or can keep up with her. She particularly enjoys friends she can drink and brawl with, and her bond with her brother Matthias is particularly close. She’s also very keen and perceptive and can read a situation almost instantly, although this is a little-known skill that she keeps relatively secret, preferring to present herself as reckless and uneducated so that she can take her targets by surprise later. Her other hobbies include riding her motorcycle, picking pockets, and sparring.
